Surviving the recession . . . intact
August 14, 2009
Australian families are finding practical ways of coping with the financial downturn. As many as 63% have restricted revolving credit usage, especially credit cards, and 50% are eating in more and cooking at home. Even more are delaying retirement by as much as five years.
Even with these measures in place, debt burdens are placing a heavier weight on Australian marriages. As many as 24% are reporting added stress or strain on their relationships due to these rocky economic days.
The problem doesn’t seem as severe overseas, with 12% of couples in Germany reporting problems, and 18% each in Spain and the United Kingdom.
