Type of Credit Card: Rewards card / Balance transfer credit card

Interest Rates*: The Commonwealth Bank Awards credit card features an 18.99% APR on purchases with up to 55 interest free days. You can also get a special balance transfer rate if you transfer a balance to your new card from another non-Commonwealth Bank credit card. The special introductory balance transfer rate is 5.99% and it would apply during your first five months as a cardholder.

Annual Fee*: The $59 annual fee will change as of 23 October 2009. At that time, new cardholders will either have a $59 or $89 annual fee. The lower annual fee will apply to those applicants who have a Commonwealth Bank account at the time of their application, if the account is considered a Preferential Pricing account — contact Commonwealth Bank for more information. Also, for accounts opened after 23 October 2009, your annual fee will be waived for the first year if you have one of those Preferential Pricing accounts.

Rewards / Extras*: When you’re a Commonwealth Bank Awards cardholder, you’ll have access to a rewards programme that entitles you to earn up to 50,000 rewards points each calendar year. You can redeem those rewards points for cash back, gift cards, merchandise, or frequent flyer points with the Air New Zealand Airpoints, Velocity Rewards, or Qantas Frequent Flyer programmes.

You can also redeem your rewards points through the Travel Plus programme — Commonwealth Bank’s exclusive booking service. Through Travel Plus you can redeem points for accommodations, flights, and other travel-related services.

With the Commonwealth Bank Awards credit card, you can earn one reward point per dollar spent. You might be able to earn additional rewards points through special offers from Commonwealth Bank’s Bonus Partners. In the future, Commonwealth Bank Awards cardholders will be able to request an American Express card attached to their account. Using that American Express credit card will allow you to earn 1.5 points per dollar spent instead.
