Commonwealth Bank upgrade not good for everybody
November 4, 2009
It’s not paranoia if they really are out to get you, an old saw goes. For some Commonwealth Bank credit card customers this morning, there could be some truth in it.
Scheduled computer and infrastructure maintenance and upgrades performed over the weekend caused a disruption of Commonwealth’s credit card services, leaving some customers unable to access their accounts, utilise the website—or even use their cards.
The number of credit card customers affected isn’t yet known; but the most interesting part of the debacle is, not everyone’s accounts were affected—only some of them.
The bank of course scrambled to fix the problem and claimed success at 12:45 PM. Certain of their customers, however, disagree with them, claiming their credit cards were not accepted for payments and NetBank, Commonwealth’s online service, remained unresponsive hours later.
