Credit Card Profile: NAB Qantas Gold Credit Card

January 4, 2010

One gold card is nice, but three is better — or at least that’s what NAB seems to think. When you get approved for an NAB Qantas Gold credit card, you don’t just get one card, you get three! Each credit card offers different levels of rewards points, so you can tailor your spending to earn as many points as possible depending on which credit cards are accepted where you shop.

Read below to learn more about the NAB Qantas Gold credit cards and how you can use three major credit cards to maximise your rewards.

Type of Credit Card: Rewards credit card / Balance transfer card

Interest Rates*: The regular interest rate on purchases for your NAB Qantas Gold credit card is 18.74%. If you plan to transfer a balance from a non-NAB credit card, you can take advantage of the 6.99% introductory interest rate on balance transfers for up to six months.

Annual Fee*: The annual fee for this credit card is $145.50. In order to earn rewards points, you’ll also need to join the Qantas Frequent Flyer Programme, which involves a separate joining fee.

Rewards / Extras*: While this rewards programme is tied specifically to the Qantas frequent flyer programme, you can actually redeem your rewards points for much more than flights. You can also redeem them for merchandise and shopping vouchers, with 1000 redemption options available.

Rewards points from your NAB Qantas Gold credit card are earned based on a tiered system. Not only does your spending level determine the rate at which you earn rewards points, but so does your choice in credit card. You’ll have access to three different cards tied to your balance on this account, and each earns rewards at a different rate.

For example, you’ll earn the most rewards points (two points per $2 spent) in your first $3000 spent using your American Express card. On the other hand, if you spend $3001 – 10,000 using either your Visa or MasterCard, you’ll only earn one point per $3 spent. Regular rewards points are capped at the $10,000 spending level. You can earn a bonus point for every dollar you spend directly on select Qantas products and services.

As extra perks you’ll also receive emergency travel assistance, purchase cover, extended warranties, and free overseas travel insurance.

Additional Details*: The NAB Qantas Gold credit card is actually three credit cards — an American Express, Visa, and MasterCard. They are all tied to a single account balance and credit limit.
