Qantas and Woolworths seek more users
February 12, 2010
Recently, millions of Qantas frequent flyers customers received an email, notifying them that they have been slated to automatically receive the Woolworths Everyday Rewards card if they did not already have one.
The emails are part of an effort between Qantas and Woolworths to deepen their business ties. Roughly one-third of Qantas members have already signed up to receive Woolworths Everyday Rewards loyalty cards, which allow them to earn extra frequent flyer points at the retailers’ establishments although the two cards are not directly linked. The relationship between the two corporations was announced last June.
However, there appears to be a hitch in the joint marketing effort.
Cardholders who telephone the Qantas call centre to complain about the marketing push, or who inquire about the offer, are being encouraged to sign up for an ANZ Qantas credit card rather than the Woolworths Everyday Money card. The competing ANZ Qantas card allows cardholders to accumulate frequent flyer points directly, unlike the Woolworths Everyday Money offer.
