Inflation on the way, say Australians

Higher inflation is on the way, said Australian consumers in an April survey by Westpac Bank and the Melbourne Institute.
The two institutions’ survey of inflationary expectations showed the median of consumers’ forecasts rose 0.9% to 4.1%. This is the highest reading since October 2008, and well above the March reading of 3.2%. read more..

Higher rents in first quarter

The housing shortage and higher interest rates from the Reserve Bank have combined to wallop renters with soaring prices in the first quarter of the year.
Nationwide the surge in rents totalled 1.5%, accelerating from 0.6% in the final quarter of 2009. This quicker pace may contribute to higher inflation as the year progresses, and prompt the RBA to raise rates yet again. read more..
